The Present

The Present explores developments in UAE society due to the economic boom and the resulting impact on society. In this period, new workers were brought en masse to the Emirates, and the result of this influx radically changed the make-up of society. This work emphasizes the need for the coexistence of cultures and the tolerance of differences among people. Rather than a clash of civilizations, cultures, and religions, The Present proposes accepting each other so that one can live in a peaceful and tolerant society. Al Banna uses coloured fabric as a symbolic reference of the diverse, multicultural communities dwelling together and indicates a merging of cultures while preserving their specificity.
